Secret “Puppet Club” Society Believed to Be Operating Somewhere in Raunds

Residents have long suspected that Raunds may be home to many things – strange handwritten notices, a dairy company that insists it’s Northampton, and several databases that firmly believe it’s Wellingborough.

But new evidence suggests the town may also be the base of a highly secretive underground organisation known only as “The Puppet Club.”

The mysterious society first came to public attention after a series of strange handwritten messages began appearing around the town on cereal boxes, cardboard signs and occasionally empty milk bottles.

The messages contain a mixture of coded phrases, cryptic announcements and what appear to be references to various senior members of the organisation.

Other messages discovered by residents include references to:

    • a “Puppet Club Hotline”
    • mysterious codes such as “M.Y.D.O – Mellow Yellow Duck Oil”
    • warnings involving “High Strength Animal Repellent”

Despite years of sightings, the true purpose of the organisation remains unclear.

However, sources familiar with the group claim the Puppet Club operates using a strict membership structure.

According to leaked documents (written on the back of a cereal box), the organisation is believed to operate under the following command structure:

    • Grand Master of Strings
    • Deputy Controller of Puppetry
    • Regional Sock Representatives
    • Milk Bottle Messengers

Members are believed to communicate through coded notes and symbolic objects left in carefully selected locations across the town.

The use of milk bottles is thought to serve as a form of low-cost messaging infrastructure, allowing information to be exchanged without the need for modern technology.

The group has also occasionally been linked to a series of mysterious fires, which some residents believe may form part of elaborate Puppet Club initiation rituals.

While investigators have never confirmed this theory, some locals remain convinced that certain fires have coincided suspiciously with the appearance of new Puppet Club messages.

At one point, rumours even circulated that the society’s activities may have somehow contributed to the infamous Stanwick Lakes play area fire, although experts later concluded that this was most likely a coincidence, an overactive imagination, or an extremely enthusiastic puppet rehearsal gone wrong.

One long-time Raunds resident said the organisation appears to have been operating for years.

You’ll just be out for a walk and suddenly there’s a message about the Puppet Club written on a cereal box pinned to a tree. At that point you realise something much bigger is going on.

Despite numerous sightings of the group’s communications network, no official Puppet Club meetings have yet been witnessed.

However, experts believe gatherings may take place at undisclosed locations somewhere within the town, possibly involving very serious discussions about puppets around ceremonial fires.

Intriguingly, investigators recently uncovered what appears to be a working contact number linked to the organisation.

Anyone wishing to report suspicious puppet activity, mysterious milk bottles, or coded cardboard messages can apparently contact the Puppet Club Hotline on 01933 754 053.

Early callers report that the hotline attempts to connect them with a “senior puppetry official”, although it remains unclear whether any such official actually exists.

Authorities have not commented on the situation, although one source suggested that unless the organisation begins performing puppet shows without a licence, there is little they can do.

For now, residents are advised that if they encounter a mysterious sign, bottle or message referencing the Puppet Club, they should remain calm and avoid interfering with what is clearly a highly organised puppet-based operation.

Further updates will be provided if the Puppet Club chooses to make itself known.

Or if anyone successfully reaches the hotline.

    Editorial Note

This article is satire and should not be interpreted as evidence that a secret puppet-based organisation is operating anywhere in Raunds.

That said, after publishing earlier drafts of this story, several readers claimed they had already seen similar cardboard signs and milk bottles around the area over the years.

Raunds Totally Inaccurate News has no explanation for this.

If anyone happens to call the number mentioned above and hears something unusual, we recommend keeping it to yourself.

    For obvious reasons.
